CEBU, Philippines - A security guard died while another was seriously injured in two separate shooting incidents in Cebu City over the weekend.
William Baldado of Basak Pardo was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center after he got shot in the chest by two alleged ruby boys whom he rudely answered when the suspects ask him for direction.
Baldado was allegedly manning his post along F. Gonzales Street in Barangay Santo Niño at around 5:20 p.m. Sunday when the suspects, Ericson Mainit, 24, and Juanito Laua, 24, both from Barangay Ermita, came to ask him where the City Plaza is located.
Instead of answering politely, Baldado reportedly answered the two rudely, prompting one of the suspects to pull out a .357 magnum revolver and shot him in the chest.
The suspects immediately fled but were arrested in Ermita during a hot pursuit operation. Despite positive identification by the witnesses the suspects denied any involvement in the crime.
Five hours later, another security guard was shot in front of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Alvin Tangayan, 19, of Dalaguete, Cebu was shot in the stomach by two unidentified men at around 10:20 p.m. near the hospital entrance.
The victim had just finished writing an entry into his log book when the two unidentified armed men shot him without any provocation.
Initial investigation reveals that the suspects might have thought that Tangayan will apprehend them because of a previous incident in a nearby Cebu Maternity Hospital.
According to the police, the suspects have just escaped from the security guards of the Cebu Maternity Hospital who were also chasing them after they allegedly attacked a nurse.
Tangayan was immediately rushed in the emergency room of the VSMMC where he is currently recuperating. - (THE FREEMAN)
