Drug cases rise in first two quarters

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group reported an increase in the number of drug cases during the first two quarters of this year compared to the same period last year.

Based on the PAIDSOTG’s statistics they have filed 159 drug cases before the prosecutor’s office from January up to June this year. The number is higher compared to the 102 cases last year.

Even the number of police operations has increased from 113 last year to 174 this year. Supt. Teofilo Siclot, deputy provincial director for operation, said the increase in the number of both drug operations and cases is brought about by the intensive campaign against illegal drugs. He however could not supply the date how many of the cases filed were actually elevated to the court.

Danao City has the most number of drug operations and cases filed during the first two quarters this year. Based on the record, it has 22 operations since January to June and has filed 19 cases.
