CEBU, Philippines - The leaders of at least 12 mountain barangays of Cebu City are asking for the opening of a road towards a century-old cemetery in Barangay Sirao.
The barangay captains of Sirao, Pung-ol, Sibugay, Malubog, Taptap, Adlaon, Bonbon, Tagba-o, Tabunan, Guba, Agsungot and Cambinocot have jointly asked Mayor Michael Rama to open a road towards Cemetery McKenlay.
“It is difficult to go to the cemetery especially if it is raining because the road is too difficult or too slippery for us to pass,” reads the letter of the barangay captains to Rama.
Sirao captain Felix Limotan said the people in the 12 barangays burry their dead in the said cemetery.
The cemetery was named after an American soldier who built it in 1910. The area used to be the American soldiers’ camp during the World War I. —(FREEMAN)
