Fuel subsidy for tricycle operators now available

CEBU, Philippines - The 259 tricycle operators in Cebu City may now claim the fuel subsidy under the “Pantawid Pasada Program” of the government at the City Hall after the Department of the Interior and Local Government yesterday turned over the check to the local government for distribution.

Mayor Michael Rama received the check worth P38,850 from DILG city director Patricio Gabuya. Rama immediately ordered the treasurer’s office to start distributing the subsidy at P150 each.

The P38,850 is part of the P3.4 million-worth of fuel subsidy for all tricycle franchise holders throughout the region. The government had decided to give fuel assistance to tricycle drivers in the light of the series of fuel price increases.

Each of the tricycle franchisee is entitled to P150 subsidy which will be given to their drivers.

Ely Espina of the Cebu City public information office said the subsidy will be released to the beneficiary upon presentation of a valid identification card and the franchise of his unit.

It was learned that until now there are still many of the passenger jeepney operators who did not claim their P1,050 fuel subsidy per franchisee. (FREEMAN)
