CEBU, Philippines - A mini grocery owner lost over P600,000 cash and other valuables to two motorcycle-riding robbers in Poblacion, Danao City Sunday evening.
One of the suspects whom police identified as Lou James “Jimboy” Popoy, 19, of Barangay Basak, Catmon was later arrested by the police during a hot pursuit operation.
Cris Almaden, resident of Bonifacio Extension, Barangay Poblacion was on her way home on board a tricycle after tending her mini grocery when Popoy and his unidentified companion allegedly blocked her way and demanded her bag containing P100,000 cash, P500,000 worth of checks and two cellular phones worth P12,000.
Almaden said the robbers, one of whom she later identified as Popoy, pointed an unknown caliber at her and demanded the proceeds of her store. According to Almaden, it was Popoy who pointed the gun at her.
The victim immediately reported the incident to the police station and a hot pursuit operation was conducted resulting to Popoy’s arrest in Barangay Basak, Catmon.
Despite his positive identification by the victim, Popoy vehemently denied any involvement in the robbery. The police also failed to recover the stolen amount and valuables.
It was learned that Popoy has a pending arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Sylva Aguirre Paderanga on May 11. - (THE FREEMAN)
