CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare Services of the Cebu City Hall yesterday said the validation for cash assistance for the senior citizens is until tomorrow only.
During the celebration of the 8th founding anniversary of the United Senior Citizens Associations (USCA) at the Cogon Ramos Sports Complex yesterday, DSWS head Cathy R. Yso announced that seniors who want to avail of the incentive from the City Hall has until June 17 only to validate their records with the city.
The P4,000 yearly financial assistance will be released during the payroll in every barangay in Cebu City. The amount represents the P2,000 that they will receive during Christmas and another P2,000 on their birthday.
Yesterday’s event was attended by some 500 senior citizens who are members of the USCA in 80 barangays of the city.
USCA president George Villamor said they have 12, 000 senior citizen members from all the city’s barangays.
“This is the last portion sa kinabuhi sa mga senior citizens, kay ingon man sila nga naa man mi sa departure area, so we are trying to make most of the time that God has given to us,” Villamor said.
He added USCA will continue to provide good services to the senior citizens in Cebu City through medical missions, educational training, religious and civic and cultural activities.
The celebration featured various activities such as parlor games and intermission numbers by representatives of different barangays.
Former Cebu City north district representative Raul Del Mar said he is very proud that Cebu City has prioritized the senior citizens, because he believed that senior citizens are still active and committed in doing good things to the community.
Del Mar said “every senior citizen in the world deserves some slack” as they have worked so hard and paid their dues to society.
“Now is the society’s turn to serve them,” he added. — (FREEMAN)
