CEBU, Philippines - A supposed to be celebration of a wedding anniversary turned into a tragedy when a man drowned while he and his family were swimming in the seawaters of Sitio Quarry, Barangay Looc, Danao City last Sunday afternoon.
Roel Pepito, 27, of Barangay Sabang was found floating already dead almost four hours after he was missing. Responding police officers searched for him for a possible rescue but failed to locate him until he was found lifeless.
Roel and his wife Rosalie, 27, were celebrating their wedding anniversary together with their family and friends at the Quarry Beach Resort.
The couple’s friends alleged that Roel was under the influence of liquor when he went swimming and got missing.
Chief Inspector Alvin Balio, Danao police chief, said Rosalie even went home to check if Roel was there, thinking he went home ahead but he was not at their house that prompted her to go to the police station.
Roel was discovered floating about 5:20 in the afternoon after a resident saw him.
The municipal health officer said Roel died of drowning and no sign of foul play was found in his body. - (THE FREEMAN)
