CEBU, Philippines - Two were killed in separate shooting incidents in the cities of Talisay and Danao over the weekend while two were also injured, including a policeman, in a road mishap in Catmon last Saturday morning.
.A 24-year-old man was shot dead while walking home at sitio San Antonio, barangay Linao, Talisay City yesterday dawn.
Arnel Segundino, of sitio Antipolo succumbed to two gunshot wounds in his head and face after he was shot by unidentified men on board a black motorcycle.
Segundino was walking home from a benefit dance in barangay Linao with his friend Emmanuel Caparida when a motorcycle passed by them and suddenly made a U-turn.
The back rider disembarked and shot Segundino in his head and face using a .38 revolver pistol before fleeing towards Springwood Subdivision in Minglanilla town.
Caparida rushed him to the Minglanilla District Hospital but few minutes later, he was declared dead by the attending physician.
Caparida said he could identify the gunman if he sees him again. Police Officer 3 Mikie Espina, Talisay police investigator, said the assailant was not wearing a mask or a helmet.
Segundino’s cadaver was taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes in barangay Bulacao while further investigation is being conducted.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old beautician was shot dead outside his house in sitio Tabok, barangay Maslog, Danao City last Saturday morning.
Declared dead on arrival at the Danao District Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds in his body was Ronnie Aguilar.
Police Officer 2 Marlon Remollo, Danao police investigator, said Aguilar was doing a haircut outside his house when motorcycle-riding suspects stopped at the back portion of his house.
The back rider disembarked and shot Aguilar thrice from behind, the bullets exiting in his breast and stomach.
Remollo suspected that Aguilar’s assassination was linked to his involvement in drugs as well as being a police informant.
Aguilar was allegedly a drug user who also tipped off the police on who were the big-time drug personalities.
“Duna man guy nangadakpan nga siya ang gipasanginlan nga nagtug-an sa police,” Remollo said.
The police recovered three empty shells and a slug of a caliber .45 pistol.
In a separate incident, a policeman and a minor were injured in an accident involving a motorcycle and a bicycle at Corner P. Pontillas St., Barangay Flores, Catmon last Saturday morning.
Police Officer 3 Arnel Fruta, 35, was rushed to the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital in Cebu City due to bone fracture in his arms and other injuries while 13-year-old Sheila Oromo was taken to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod due to minor injuries. — (FREEMAN)
