Another marijuana plantation raided

CEBU, Philippines - Joint operatives of the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) of the Provincial Police and the Danao City Police uprooted 460 stalks of fully grown Marijuana plants in a secluded area in Danao City yesterday morning.

The plantation is located in Sitio Malingin-Linaw in Barangay Tagonon. Police said the 460 stalks would have sold at P92,000 based on the current street value of P200 per stalk. The stalks are now under the custody of the Danao Police.

Police said the marijuana plantation has been abandoned by the time they arrived. Investigation is ongoing to identify the cultivator.

The joint team was led by Police Chief Inspector Alvin Balio and PO3 Ritchel Arquiza.

Just last Thursday, a joint team of the Philippine Army uprooted over 200 stalks of fully grown marijuana plants in a mountain barangay in Carmen, Cebu.

Members of the 78th and 52nd Infantry Battalions of the 8th Infantry Division had responded to a sighting of an armed group in Purok, Balili, Barangay Liboron - 20 kilometers away from the town proper - when they chanced upon the plantation.

The military operatives did not find the armed group but were able to uproot 210 stalks of marijuana plants. The stalks were estimated to cost P42,000. (FREEMAN)
