Mambaling flyover now open

CEBU, Philippines - The 420-meter newly completed flyover in Barangay Mambaling is finally opened to vehicle traffic.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama led the formal opening of the P110-million infrastructure project in the south shortly before noon yesterday.

The opening of the flyover was welcomed by the motorists, especially public utility drivers, who claimed to have noticed the immediate effect of the flyover in solving the traffic congestion in the area.

 “Salamat g’yud kaayo kay makadaginot na mi’g fuel kay dili na kaayo kami malangan sa pag-agi dinhi. Dugay g’yud tawon ang among pag-antos,” said PUJ driver Antonio Coliflores who was among the first drivers who passed by the flyover after it was opened at 11:30 a.m.

Rama advised the motorists, though, to be careful because there is a portion a curve portion near the Mambaling Elementary School which they considered as accident prone.

About 15 minutes before the opening, a shooting incident took place at the approach of the flyover near the CIT University.

A suspected snatcher shot and injured two persons who chased him after he snatched the cellphone of a certain Lovely Hubahib.

Felix Panugaling, 45, and Arsenio Hanggin, 47, both of Barangay Punta Princesa chanced upon the suspect Jeffrey Pulgo.

Pulgo tried to escape on his bicycle but the victims chased him on their motorcycle. The victims caught up with Pulgo but they were shot instead using a .357 Magnum revolver.

Pulgo tried to run but was accosted by the policemen who were at the vicinity to provide security for Rama. — (FREEMAN)
