CEBU, Philippines - Being prepared and always ready in times of emergency is one of the main reasons why the West Cebu Industrial Park Safety and Security Council Inc. conducted its first WCIP ERT Fire Brigade Competition at the WCIP helipad ground in Balamban town yesterday.
THI Security Group ERT 2011 was the overall champion of the event.
In coordination with the Cebu Industrial Park Developers, Inc., Aboitizland, Balamban Fire Department, Red Cross, and Mactan Economic Zone Safety and Security Council, Inc. conducted the said competition in observance of the 2011 Fire Prevention with the theme: “Kahandaan sa Sunog Tungo sa Kaunlaran”.
Marcelo Go, president of WCIPSSCI said that the point of the said competition is to upgrade the skills of the people when it comes to firefighting, rescue and emergency procedures. Go said that by conducting the said competition, people will be instilled with the basic knowledge of what to do when facing calamities.
“The event is a combination of bonding, at the same time learning the skills that we could apply in times of calamities. By next year we are planning to involve the community, the neighboring barangays for them to acquire or learn the basic knowledge like this,” Go said.
Twelve teams participated in the said event namely the Aboitiz-CIPDI Industrial BU, two groups from the Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu) Inc. which are the THI Safety Group ERT 2011 and THI Security Group ERT 2011, K&A Metal Industries, Metaphil International Inc., Don Bosco Network Multi-Purpose Coop., Balamban Construction LTD. Co., Asia Security, BSF Engineering and Supplies, J-Cledd Philippines Inc., Start Well Marine Services, and AR Marine Subcon Services.
The 12 teams competed in different event categories. The teams competed simultaneously under Straight Hose Connection with Busted Hose Event, Straight Connection with Ladder Event, First Aid and Rescue Event, and Fire Bucket Relay Event. The events were divided between male and female categories.
The winning THI Security Group ERT 2011 was followed by the Abotizland-CIPDI Industrial BU and THI Safety Group ERT 2011.
Winners received trophies, certificates as well as a cash price.
Because of the success of the event the group has decided to make it a yearly event and involve the community and other interested agencies. (FREEMAN)
