CEBU, Philippines - Two people were killed including a barangay councilman in separate shooting incidents over the weekend.
Barangay councilman Wenceslao Deniega, 48, of Lusong, Tuburan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen Saturday afternoon. He was on his way to report to the barangay hall when he was waylaid by two masked-assailants.
Deniega rolled into a 20-foot slope but the gunmen went down to finish him off. According to the witness, the assailants made sure that Deniega will be dead by pumping several bullets into his head.
The witness, who happened to pass by the area when the incident happened, told the police that he saw the suspects fleeing onboard a motorcycle. One of the gunmen was allegedly sporting a tattoo on his back.
The policemen recovered five empty shells and three slugs of caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. Police investigators are checking information that the victim had an altercation with somebody few days ago as a possible lead.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old widow was killed in Sitio Kawa, Barangay Perrelos Carcar City. Elisa Obera sustained gunshot wound in her right hip. She was brought by her son Jessie to the Carcar District Hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.
Jessie told the police that he was awaken by the gunfire and the call for help from his mother.
The victim’s neighbors said they saw three unidentified males fleeing from the area after the incident. — (FREEMAN)
