CEBU, Philippines - Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado has just convened the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to make sure the town is primed for any calamity.
In previous years, the Cansaga River, which traverses several barangays, swelled and broke its banks, destroying many houses in the vicinity.
The Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is mandated by law in every local government unit under RA 10121 and chaired by the local chief executive with the different department heads of the town as members.
Alegado cited the town needs to be ready at all times during emergency cases.
She said there is also a need to be prepared constantly for man-made disasters.
In view of this, the municipal government have been cleaning Cansaga and creeks last year.
Cleaning rivers and creeks minimizes the damage typhoons and other calamities could inflict on the town, she said.
Barangay officials have been asked to closely monitor the river and creeks in their respective barangays. – (FREEMAN)
