Media group bares plans vs malnutrition

CEBU, Philippines - The Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development (MIND) 7 announced its plans of action for its advocacy against malnutrition.

The Mind 7 is composed of members of the local media who banded together and formed a group last Nov. 19 to help the National Nutrition Council (NNC) in the fight against malnutrition.

Their officers were elected last Dec. 23 and wherein the “broadcaster’s manual” for nutrition was launched.

The National Nutrition Council recently held its first organizational meeting with MIND 7 to come up with a consolidated regional plan to promote good nutrition.

The MIND 7 plans to air nutritional plugs on radio stations, play a 30-seconder animation for TV networks and come up with nutritional puzzles in local tabloids.

They also suggested a “Nutri–Run,” a “Vegetables and Fruits’ Festival,” as well as A1 Barangay and A1 Regional Baby.

Zosimo “Jun” Tagalog, general manager of dylA, is president of MIND 7.

“I hope under my leadership, we could live up and implement our plans. Magtinabangay lang ta,” Tagalog said.

NNC 7 Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita Mission assured their media partners of fund support for projects.

She said that by January next year, NNC 7 will present the consolidated plans during a management conference to be attended by NNC Assistant Secretary Maria Bernardita Flores and other NNC regional coordinators.

Mission believes on the power of media to influence the behavior of the public in attaining good health.

“We are very happy that we have found an ally in the promotion of good nutrition,” she told The FREEMAN.

Mitchelle Palaubsanon and Ma. Emee Lucena of The FREEMAN were elected as vice president for print and secretary, respectively.

ABC’s Cable Yoli Gendrauli, dyMR’s Anabelle Lagrosas, Cebu Bloggers’ Society’s Vernon Joseph Go and Marie Nillama of DPWH 7 were also elected as vice president for TV, radio, social media and information office.

John Ciacon of Amazing Cebu was voted as treasurer and Anol Mongaya of Sun.Star Cebu is the group’s public relations officer.

Meanwhile, Wilhelmina Sarawi of the Cebu Bloggers’ Society stressed the need for the youth to participate in the advocacy against malnutrition and hunger.
