CEBU, Philippines - Cebu sixth district Rep. Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing has embarked on a program that ensures each of the 62 barangays in his district will have mini-ambulances.
The neophyte lawmaker, the grandson of Norkis Group chairman Norberto Quisumbing, said he wanted to make healthcare more accessible to his constituents, explaining that residents in the barangays will greatly benefits from the mini-ambulances.
The sixth district is composed of 27 barangays in Mandaue, 33 barangays in Consolacion and 23 barangays in Cordova.
During the other day’s event honoring the district’s Barangay Health Workers, Quisumbing said he would strengthen the Medical Assistance Program now implemented for his constituents confined at Eversley Children’s Sanitarium in Jagobiao, Mandaue City and at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
Quisumbing, a member of the House committee on health, donated medicine to the BHWs for distribution to residents in the district.
The BHWs, considered as front-liners in providing very important services to the barangays, were honored for their commitment in rendering services to the district’s residents.
Quisumbing said although they are exposed to difficulties, fatigue and to risks of communicable diseases, BHWs are always there in the barangays to ensure the health of the residents. (THE FREEMAN)
