CEBU, Philippines - The inmate who escaped from the Danao City detention cell was captured last Wednesday evening in Lapu-Lapu City, five days after he ran away from his escort while throwing garbage.
Ryan Zamora, 27, stayed in a hotel room after his escape. It was where PO3 Arnold Giangan arrested him.
One of the owners of Cebu Marine Beach Resort in Barangay Subabasbas, Lapu-Lapu City is a friend of Zamora’s family. The owner called up Zamora’s father, Renato, who in turn informed the Danao City Police.
Zamora was arrested for qualified theft months ago wherein his parents served as complainants. He was able to run to a waiting motorcycle while he was throwing garbage outside the jail, escorted by SPO3 Quirino Vasquez.
The motorcycle he used in fleeing was driven by Lyndon Casas, a friend of Zamora. Casas was also a detainee who posted bail last December 6 for illegal possession of firearm and illegal drugs.
Vasquez chased the two but failed to catch them.
Casas was identified by the motorcycle owner, Carlito Barriga, as the one who borrowed his motorcycle before the incident.
Provincial Investigative Branch (PIB) Chief Senior Inspector Rubin Cuizon said that even if Zamora was re-arrested, Vasquez still has to face charges because of what happened. (FREEMAN)
