CEBU, Philippines - Children and relatives of politicians ruled in yesterday’s Sangguniang Kabataan Federation elections in Cebu province.
Aladin Willyamie Caminero, 17, son of Board Member Wilfredo Caminero, won unopposed as federation president.
Caminero, who represented the SK of Argao, got 48 votes. Only two SK presidents from the province’s 50 component cities and municipalities were absent in yesterday’s polls at the Capitol Social Hall.
John Fredric Marcel Zambo of Toledo, the nephew of Board Member Ian Caesar Geronimo Zambo, was elected federation vice president while Alexamanna Chiong of Naga, the niece of Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong, was elected secretary.
Prince Cumayas of Santander was elected treasurer while Aleck Arquillano of San Francisco, son of San Francisco Mayor Alfredo Arquillano, was elected auditor. Elected public relations officer is Chedz Lim of Bantayan who belongs to the Escarios, a political family in the town. Mariano Blanco, the elected sergeant at arms, is the nephew of Ronda Mayor Mariano Blanco III.
Only Cumayas claimed as being not related to politicians, although his parents work in government.
Shortly after the elections, the new SK provincial officers took their oath before Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
“The spirit of One Cebu continues to live on,” Garcia said.
Garcia assured the new officers of her support not only for their own initiatives, but also of Capitol’s own projects for the youth.
The governor also asked the SKF to help in the fight against human trafficking, as well as vandalism especially in areas close to Metro Cebu.
Caminero accepted the challenge. (FREEMAN)
