CEBU, Philippines – A sari-sari store attendant and a scavenger were gunned down in separate incidents in Cebu City less than 24-hours apart.
Jonathan Lamano, 22, was manning a family-owned sari-sari store along Salinas Drive Extension in Barangay Lahug yesterday morning when two motorcycle-riding men stopped in front of the store and shot him several times. He sustained gunshot wounds on the right chest and cheek.
Lamano's mother believes that the crime has something to do with the victim's alleged involvement in a stabbing incident a year ago.
Senior Police Officer 4 Alex Dacua of the Homicide Section said that the victim's mother told him about the threats that her son received.
"Gipasanginlan na siya nga nanunggab a year ago, nya wala mukiha ang biktima maong gibawsan na lang siya. Nakadawat sad daw na siya og mga pamahad, mga storya-storya before nga patyon siya," Dacua said.
Few hours earlier, Niño Yunting, 31, resident of Barangay Tejero was also shot dead by one Marky Ybañez and unidentified companions at David Sy Gaisano Street.
Yunting, who earns a living by selling scrap iron which he collects in the day, was carrying his trisikad loaded with some junk materials when the suspects allegedly fired at him.
The suspects immediately fled after the incident. (FREEMAN)
