CEBU, Philippines – Newly elected barangay chiefs in the cities of Carcar and Naga took their oath of office yesterday before first district Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas.
All barangay chiefs of both cities, 15 for Carcar and 28 for Naga, were present in yesterday's oath-taking ceremonies, which started in Carcar City first at 1 p.m. and then in Naga at 4 p.m. the same day.
Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong yesterday said his brother Virgilio Chiong of East Poblacion is the party's lone candidate for the Association of Barangay Councils presidency.
Virgilio is expected to run unopposed. The same is also true with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation presidential contest, he said.
Meanwhile, later today, Talisay City's administration-backed barangay chiefs are also scheduled to take their oath of office, also before the veteran congressman being the party president, at 6 p.m. today at the city hall.
Only 15 of the 22 barangay chiefs are expected to show up in today's ceremony, as the seven have already pledged their allegiance to the opposition in last week's oath-taking ceremony administered by Vice Governor Greg Sanchez. (FREEMAN)
