CEBU, Philippines – The tourist police assigned in Lapu-Lapu City will soon be provided with communication equipment.
The Lapu-Lapu City council during its regular session last Wednesday approved an appropriation ordinance allocating P643 thousand for the purchase of communication equipment for the tourist police for surveillance purposes.
The amount will be taken from Pagcor funds of the city government.
Mayor Paz Radaza had requested the approval of the ordinance authorizing the City Treasurer, City Budget Officer, and the City Accountant for the release of the amount.
Earlier, the Lapu-Lapu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission had assured the safety of visitors now that tourist policemen have been assigned in barangays where hotels and beach resorts are located.
Tourism Commission Chairman Damian Gomez Jr. said the city government has allocated funds for the purchase of necessary equipment for the tourist police.
The Special Weapons and Tactics in Lapu-Lapu City will also be provided with equipment and personnel.
He said at least three sub-stations will be put up in barangays Marigondon, Mactan, and Punta Engaño.
Beach resort owners and operators in Lapu-Lapu City have expressed their gratitude for the move.
The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation-Base 2 would be stationed near the Lapu-Lapu City hall. (FREEMAN)
