Talisay commends policeman, tanods

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has commended PO1 Jessieben Gumandal for his bravery he showed last week which resulted to the arrest of two robbery suspects in sitio Mananga, barangay Tabunok.

"The quick response and courage of PO1 Gumandal is a proud dedication to giving service to the public; whereas, it is but proper and just to honor PO1 Jessieben Gumandal for his exemplary bravery in the line of duty," read the newly approved resolution.

Last Nov. 10, Gumandal exhibited his bravery when he foiled a robbery attempt on a female passenger of a multicab by running towards the two suspects and shot one of them.

Johnly Abangan, reportedly the one with a gun who was about to fire first at Gumandal, was hit in the abdomen. His companion, Jeffrey Paras, escaped, but was later on arrested by the Talisay City Police the following day together with all the stolen items.

The two have already been criminally charged.

Gumandal is a field training policeman assigned at the Talisay City Police Station.

Meanwhile, the council also commended to barangay tanod Francis Lucion, and private citizens Xyrus Alan Bucao, Christian Alan Bucao, Ignacio Andam, Guillermo Genobano, Cadic Heroshe Pasignajen, Regie Pasignajen, and Julius Montecillo, all of barangay San Isidro for "exhibiting dedication" and "bravery" that led to the arrest of robbery suspects last Nov. 5.

Last Nov. 5, the house of Earl Desquitado in Sto. Niño Village was being ransacked and robbed by then unidentified persons when they came and apprehended the suspects.

"Their dedication to keeping the peace in the community and bravery and mindless of their personal undertakings at that time are heroic actions which ought to be recognized and acknowledged," said the resolution, authored by Councilor Celiapo A. Cabuenas. — THE FREEMAN
