CITOM to tow vehicles parked in cemeteries

CEBU, Philippines – All vehicles that will be caught parked at the vicinity of the cemeteries in Cebu City from Saturday to Tuesday will be towed while traffic authorities have decided to install metal railings in the sidewalks to prevent candle and flower vendors from selling their goods on the roads to minimize traffic congestion during the observance of the All Saints' and All Souls' Day.

Sylvan Jakosalem, chairman of the City Traffic Operations Management, said he already signed a memorandum of agreement with the management of Cebu Memorial Park or Cempark allowing the traffic enforcers to operate inside the private cemetery.

He informed the motorists that the towing of vehicles will be enforced even inside the Cempark if such vehicles are obstructing traffic.

"CITOM shall be given full authority to supervise the entry and exit and be allowed to operate inside Cempark," Jakosalem said, adding the order to do this came from Mayor Michael Rama himself.

Jakosalem also said that even trisikads are strictly not allowed to traverse areas near the cemeteries because these can contribute to the problem of traffic congestion. (FREEMAN)
