"Botika sa Barangay" opens in Olango Island

CEBU, Philippines – The first Botika sa Barangay in barangay of Tungasan in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City was formally opened the other day.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, assisted by the officials of Barangay Tungasan, led the ribbon-cutting.

With the opening of the "Botika," residents of the island barangay now has easy access to medicine.

The putting up of the Botika sa Barangay is in line with her agenda on health care aimed at the overall wellbeing of the people.

With an initial funding of P25,000 which was taken from PCSO funds, the Botika sa Barangay will strictly be put up in remote and depressed areas of the city especially those that are not served by existing community drug stores.

The Botika sa Barangay will also be managed by an organized body within the community such as cooperatives or the barangay health committees.

A supervising pharmacist is assigned by the city to supervise the operations.

As of the moment Miss Filomena Augusto, a registered pharmacist affiliated with the City Health Department, is monitoring the outlets. (FREEMAN)
