Four honest pupils honored

CEBU, Philippines – The four elementary pupils from Badian who returned the P50,000 they found were separately honored yesterday by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Kathleen Taypin, 10; Jer-an Sasing, 10; Nanette Taboada, 8; and Gail Aimyh Vellos, 9; were cited for their honesty.

The Governor gave the four pupils of Malhiao Elementary School in Badian a citation award for returning the money they found at the back of their school. The P50,000 they found was traced to be part of the loot money during a robbery incident in Lapu-Lapu City.

The simple awarding ceremony was held at the Capitol Social Hall yesterday morning. The pupils were accompanied by Badian Mayor Robburt Librando, their teacher Teresita Nepomuceno and Malhiao Barangay Captain Floro Raboy.

On top of the citation, each of the four children also received P10,000 cash, one sack of rice, one box of sardines and noodles and school supplies from the provincial government.

CPPO provincial director Erson Digal also gave each of the four pupils a certificate of recognition during their weekly flag raising ceremony at the provincial police headquarters.

Digal said that the four kids were one of a kind. "It is an honor to have with us the mighty kids who have shown extra character. The act that they have shown is a good example not to the students but to all of us," Digal said.

Digal is thankful to the parents and teachers of the students who taught them the good acts and brought hem well.

"Susama sa panulti-un nga kung unsa ang punuan mao sab ang bunga," Digal added.

The children are also scheduled to receive on Wednesday a plaque of appreciation from the Cebu-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. - Flor Z.Perolina, Mellanie C. Rosales and Lesley Caminade /FPL (FREEMAN)
