PB invites Madarieta to brief on dengue

CEBU, Philippines – Department of Health regional director Susana Madarieta was invited to appear before the provincial board this afternoon to brief the members of the legislative department on the status of the dengue problem in Cebu.

PB member Arleigh Sitoy extended the invitation to Madarieta, through a resolution, to find out what possible measure to take in order to address the rising dengue cases in the province.

The invitation stemmed from the declaration of dengue outbreak in Minglanilla after seven children died in Minglanilla in June 2010 and the surge of the number of dengue patients from Toledo City.

Toledo is reported to have the highest number of cases, 99, followed by Talisay City 89, Danao City, 88, Balamban, 86, Minglanilla, 61, Asturias, 53, Bogo City and Daanbantayan have 41 each, Liloan, 40, Argao, 38 and Medellin, 37.

"The onset of the rainy season signals the coming of the dreaded mosquito-borne dengue disease which if left untreated can lead to death…the Sangguniang Panlalawigan deems it appropriate and necessary to be apprised on the status of the dengue problem menacing the province," Sitoy's resolution reads.

Even if the province already has a Task Force Dengue led by PB member Sergio Restauro misting around the province, Sitoy believes that the cooperation of everyone is still needed.

"Once there is already a case in a certain area it is already considered as alarming but again it is important to kill the adult mosquitoes and the larva by keeping the surroundings clean, of course with the cooperation of everyone," Restauro, head of the Task Force Dengue, said.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said they will go on with the measures to stop dengue cases but as far as preventive measure is concern or even killing these mosquitoes every-one must cooperate even if the province has the necessary equipments. (FREEMAN)
