Doc proposes 3 solutions for CCMC

CEBU, Philippines – Doctor Shawn Espina, one of the doctors who refused the offer of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to head the Cebu City Medical Center, instead gave three suggestions to help the stagnating hospital.

During the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente last Monday at the Casino Español, Espina, the guest speaker, discussed what he called a three-step approach to the CCMC question.

The first solution that Espina cited is having a sustainable health program which will establish a Health Maintenance Organization, a cross between a healthcare provider and a cooperative, that can insure its members and also provide them access to private hospitals.

Espina also said this program should also provide alternative venues for patient treatment to avoid decongestion and alternative venues for uninterrupted residency training to allow the rehabilitation of CCMC structures.

He also said the program should strengthen the barangay health centers.

The second solution is a Cebu Health Foundation that will source and manage donations and open doors for donations and volunteerism.

A Cebu City Health Board is his third solution. Espina said it should be a collaborative effort between the private sector, the business sector and the government. (THE FREEMAN)
