CEBU, Philippines- Hundreds of claimants of the burial assistance from Rep. Benhur Salimbangon are finally relieved after over two years of waiting.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development has finally released the funds out of the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Salimbangon for the burial assistance program to more than 500 claimants since 2008.
Among the eight towns and one city in the fourth district, Daanbantayan town has the most number of claimants with 123, who will receive P3,000 each.
Earlier, some claimants have expressed disappointment when Salimbangon and the DSWD distributed checks only to those who filed their claims in later 2009 and before the 2010 elections.
He however told his constituents to just be patient in waiting while DSWD is doing some adjustments in processing their claims especially those filed in 2008.
Burial assistance is just one of the programs of Salimbangon when he assumed in 2007 wherein thousands of his constituents in the grassroots level have already availed of.
Salimbangon is supposed to distribute the check to the claimants tomorrow but he decided to postpone it because he has to attend the opening session of the 15th Congress at the House of Representatives in Manila.
