CEBU, Philippines- Small farmers and fishermen in Cebu fifth district will receive assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Fisheries and Training Center in Central Visayas.
Eduardo Suderio, director of the DA-BFAR-RFTC-7 based in Carmen town, made the statement during a meeting with fifth district Provincial Board Members Jude Thaddeus Sybico and Agnes Magpale.
Suderio informed Sybico and Magpale that the department had existing projects that provide livelihood to the farmers in Danao City, Carmen, Catmon and Sogod.
According to Suderio, they are conducting seminars and training for farmers and fishermen in those areas.
He said that a number of residents in Danao City, Carmen and Catmon are now engaged in tilapia culture. These fishermen are also forming a cooperative in order to avail of the program of the department.
Suderio said that they are also coordinating with the municipal agriculture officers in those areas in the implementation of the projects.
Both Sybico and Magpale assured full support to the program.
Sybico said that with the present economic problems, there is also a need to encourage the residents in those areas to avail themselves of the project.
“Daghan kaayo sa atong mga kaigsoonan ang moadto sa mga dakbayan ug laing lugar aron sa pagpangita ug trabaho. Apan wala nila makita nga diha sa atong mga dagkong luna ug kadagatan naa diay ang mga bahandi nga wala nato matikad,” said Sybico.
Suderio informed Magpale that they are also providing technical support to fishermen and farmers in Asturias town who are engaged in tilapia culture.
