CEBU, Philippines - One person died while seven others were seriously injured after a Toyota Fortuner rolled over twice before turning upside down in Barangay Luka, Oslob, Cebu last Saturday afternoon.
Cristian Jeruss Marie, resident of Lapu-Lapu City, died in Oslob District Hospital where he was taken for medical treatment along with the other passengers of the vehicle driven by Zenaida Muntuerto.
Aside from Muntuerto the other victims were Rhoel Mandin, 33, of Subangdaku Mandaue City; Abel Gamalo, 41, of Metropolis Subdivision, Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City; Maria Rowena Marie, of Lapu-Lapu City; and Jissa Mandin, 28, of Mandaue City.
They were initially brought to Oslob District Hospital but were transferred later to South General Hospital because of the multiple injuries they suffered that need extensive medical treatment.
Initial investigation conducted by the Oslob police disclosed that Muntuerto, resident of Metropolis Subdivision, Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City, was negotiating a blind curve on the national highway at around 5:40 p.m. Saturday when she lost control of the vehicle.
Police Officer 2 Allan Villasurda said that the vehicle extremely swerved to the left and rolled over twice before turning upside down. The victims were on their way to a beach resort in the south to celebrate Muntuerto’s birthday. — THE FREEMAN
