Capitol reviews cash assistance of Sanchez

CEBU, Philippines - The Capitol is reviewing at least P12 million worth of financial assistance granted by the office of Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. to the different barangays in Tuburan following reports of alleged irregularities in the transactions.

Sanchez immediately dismissed the move as pure and simple harassment.

Capitol spokesman Rory Jon Sepulveda said they received information of alleged irregularities on how the financial assistance was spent.

To check the veracity of the reports, Sepulveda said they will look into how it was spent and if these were properly liquidated according to the rules of the Commission on Audit.

Sepulveda is also questioning why Sanchez seems to have concentrated his financial assistance to Tuburan. Based on the records, more than P12 million was released by Sanchez to the town.

“Daghan ta og nadawat nga mga taho bahin sa pagpatuman sa proyekto diha sa lungsod sa Tuburan, mao nga gusto nato kini mahibaw-an,” Sepulveda said.

Sanchez said there was nothing irregular in granting the financial assistance because the barangay captains received it. He added that it is already the barangay captains’ responsibility to submit the liquidation.

“Wala siguro sila kahibawo sa hustong mga paagi pagpatuman sa proyekto diha sa barangay,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez has been granting financial assistance to the different barangays of Tuburan since 2007, especially during the time where he enjoys a good relationship with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Sanchez bolted out from Garcia’s political party in the middle of last year because of political differences and because of the controversial Balili transaction of the province.

Sanchez has opposed the entry of the Suezos to One Cebu Party but he was ignored by the party leadership.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
