Database to help officials determine doable projects

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Interior and Local Government is making it easier for the newly elected local officials to come up with policies and programs in their respective local government units with the creation of the Local Governance Performance Management System.

The LGPMS is a web database self-assessment tool that can provide candidates with strategic information on the general social and economic conditions of the LGUs that can serve as basis for local policy and program development.

DILG chief Ronaldo Puno, in a press statement, said that through the LGPMS the LGU will know the state of local development and work to address service delivery and development gaps.

DILG Assistant Secretary Rolando Acosta said the new officials may access the LGPMS website anytime at www.blgs.gov.ph/lgpms for relevant information about their respective LGUs.

Earlier, Puno requested all local chief executives and DILG regional directors to organize, or reactivate their LGU-LGPMS teams to take the lead in utilizing the LGPMS and in linking information to planning, budgeting, policy development and program implementation.

The LGPMS Team shall be headed by the provincial governor, city mayor or municipal Mayor, with the vice governor or vice-mayor as vice chairperson, and the department heads as members.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
