CEBU, Philippines - Provincial Police Director Sr. Supt. Erson Digal yesterday personally handed over the allowances of the policemen to be deployed to different areas in the province to maintain peace and order on election day.
Those given the allowance yesterday were the policemen to be deployed to areas in the northern part of the province. Those to be deployed in the southern towns and cities received their allowance the other day.
Each policeman is given P1,000, inclusive of P300 as budget for transportation expenses. Aside from the monetary allowance, the policemen would also receive rice and canned goods for their meals.
Digal said he personally handed the money over to his men to ensure that it would reach their hands.
The allowance is given to the policemen to avoid instances that they would ask for favors from politicians, especially those running for a post in this year’s election. Digal has warned his men not to accept any food, drinks or any favor from politicians to avoid biases.
Digal reiterated that a police officer must be non-partisan and should remain neutral, especially during elections. — THE FREEMAN
