CEBU, Philippines - Exactly one month before the May 10 national and local elections, Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña has ordered the distribution of another round of cash assistance at P4,000 to each to the more than 30,000 senior citizens in Cebu City .
Assistant city treasurer Emma Villarete said the distribution of the cash assistance to senior citizens will be conducted starting Monday at the Plaza Sugbu in front of the City Hall legislative building.
“Nalipay g’yod kaayo kami nga makadawat na usab mi’g laing cash assistance gikan sa city government,” a blind senior citizen from Barangay Apas told The FREEMAN after he learned of the schedules of the distribution.
City treasurer Ofelia Oliva encouraged the senior citizens to follow their schedules to avoid commotions and chaos during the distribution because there will be 30,495 beneficiaries of the program.
Osmeña admitted that the granting of cash assistance to the senior citizens is a “kind of politicking,” but he explained that his objective is to help the underprivileged persons who really need assistance for their medical needs.
