LGUs urged to create water quality committee

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW) urged the local government units to institute its own Local Drinking Water Quality Monitoring Committee (LDWQMC).

A resolution authored by Cebu Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo calls for the putting up of standards for drinking water.   The resolution states that the role of the LDWQMC is to assess all water parameters listed on the standards in consultation with authorities from health, water resources, water supply provision, environment, agriculture, geological services or mining industry and radiological services.

It is in relation to the Sanitation Code of the Philippines. But the Department of Health-7 failed to implement the code because of lack coordination between LGUs and their water districts.

The committee will submit its findings to the LGUs. It will also help the LGU supply water to residents. — /Abigail Libo-on, Negros Oriental State University Intern/LPM   (FREEMAN NEWS)
