Georgia wants Carbon market moved to NRA

CEBU, Philippines - If elected, mayoralty candidate Georgia Osmeña plans to relocate the present Carbon Market in Barangay Ermita to one of the city-owned properties in the North Reclamation Area that it offered to swap with the province in the bungled land swap deal.

Georgia revealed that making Cebu City clean and beautiful will be her top priority if elected as mayor as she took the hot seat yesterday in The FREEMAN’s Know Your Candidate roundtable discussion.

“I want to move Carbon Market from there because I don’t want a market beside City Hall and Malacañang sa Sugbo. It doesn’t look good,” Georgia said.

She said moving it to the reclamation area would be ideal because of the fresh air.

She said she plans to build a three-story market building with a parking area at the ground floor, segregated, dried goods, meat, fruit and vegetable sections on the second floor and seafood on the third floor where people can also go to eat as well.

She said this is the kind of market that she wants to see in Cebu City.

Georgia also vowed to clear the city of sidewalk vendors by relocating them to a place like Manila’s Divisoria wherein they will have a stall rented from the city or from private investors.

Georgia said the city needs housekeeping which only a female mayor can do, given the garbage problem that city residents have to face everyday.

“I think the city needs a female mayor because the issues that we need to address are, if you look at it in a very small scale, I call it Housekeeping 101,” Georgia said.

She said uncollected garbage in the streets makes the city dirty and the lighting problems and bad roads have not been addressed by the city officials headed by her brother Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Georgia also said she wants to add more tourist spots to the city.

“I’d like to see an amusement center here, something like an Enchanted Kingdom,” she added, referring to the famous theme park in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Georgia said Cebu City is losing out to Bohol in terms of tourists arrivals because we do not have a city tour to offer. She intends to revive the historical and cultural heritage sites in the city that would serve as destinations for a city tour. –Fred P. Languido/BRP   FREEMAN NEWS)
