CEBU, Philippines - Cebu third district reelectionist congressman, Pablo John Garcia, yesterday warned Cebuanos to be vigilant against candidates who are pushing for the division of Cebu into three provinces.
Speaking during the One Cebu party’s proclamation rally in Argao town, Pablo John said that the same people who ran in 2007 are trying to gain elective posts again to pursue their plan to divide Cebu.
The event was attended by administration presidential candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro and the mayors from the different municipalities in the southern part of the province.
“Mao nga kay mitumaw naman usab kining ilang mga pangalan, dili gayud angayan nga mupakita kita og kompyansa karong umaabot nga piniliay,” said Pablo John.
According to him, there is a big possibility that the proponents of the “Sugbuak” will renew their move to divide the province into Cebu Occidental, Cebu del Norte and Cebu del Sur.
Pablo John’s father, second district Rep. Pablo Garcia, echoed the same observations, saying that the people were the beneficiaries of the unification initiated by her daughter Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Gwendolyn, who is also seeking another term as governor, said that Cebuanos should be vigilant against the backers of Sugbuak, adding that the voters are best judge of her accomplishments.
“Naglaum ko nga nagtan-aw sila sa atong mga binuhatan, dili kay adto sa uban nga ang saad mao lang gayud ang gihimo,” the governor said.
Her runningmate, Glenn Anthony Soco, for his part, said that the people of Cebu are now united and they should block any move to divide Cebu because it would affect the province’s development. — Jose P. Sollano/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
