CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Tomas Osmeña has approved the release of P680,000 to purchase a mini fire truck to be donated to barangay Lorega-San Miguel whose officials have decided to form its own fire brigade that would respond to fire alarms in the barangay.
Osmeña allowed the budget to be taken from the Pagcor funds, the city’s share from the operation of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation in Cebu City.
Councilor Augustus Pe Jr., chairman of the committee on peace and order of the City Council, said the mini fire truck will serve as the “penetrator” to areas that can be accessed only by smaller vehicles due to their narrow roads.
Lorega-San Miguel barangay captain Fritzgerald Herrera also said their narrow roads are what prompted him to request for the mini fire truck. The request is also in line with the barangay’s disaster preparedness plan as recommended by the Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council.
“Our barangay is highly prone to fires considering the large number of compressed houses that is why we need a mini-fire truck that will be used to penetrate the narrow roads during fires,” Herrera said. — Rene U. Borromeo/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
