CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council may soon hold sessions even during power outage.
Building administrator Emiliano Cruz said the city had already issued purchase orders to a private supplier for the needed solid wires to be used to connect the City Hall’s old generator set to the transformer at the fourth floor of the new legislative building where the City Council’s session hall is located.
Cruz, an engineer, explained that the purpose of acquiring the solid wires is to avoid a repetition of the recent incident wherein the City Council session was interrupted due to power outage that affected the City Hall while the session was going on. The absence of electricity to run the audio and lighting system of the session hall has forced council members to shout to be heard and hold session in the dark.
While the City Hall has a generator set, it cannot be used yet to supply power to the session hall because of the lack of connecting wires.
The lightings and other electrical equipment at the fourth floor of the new legislative building need 380 volts of electricity to be able to run. The power supply coming from the generator set is only 220 volts. Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias, who is also an engineer, said there is need for the generator to be connected first to a transformer to convert the power supply to higher volts.
Cruz said the use of the old generator set is only a temporary solution to the problem at the session hall during brownouts. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
