Z Gorres receives aid from Arroyo

CEBU, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday handed over financial assistance to retired boxer ZC Oliveros Gorres, also known as Z “The Dream” Gorres.

Gorres accompanied by his wife Datches and their three children met President Arroyo at the Most Important Persons (MIP) Lounge at the Mactan Cebu International Airport yesterday afternoon.

However, Gorres refused to divulge to reporters the exact amount of the said financial assistance.

Datches explained that it was Arroyo herself who asked them not to reveal to the media as to how much the amount is.

She said that they respect this request made by the president.

“Nalipay kaayo ko nga mihatag og tabang ang presidente nako, ingon man paghatag og higayon nga makakita ko niya ilabi na nga busy siya kaayo,” Gorres said.

The ceremony lasted for five minutes only and was witnessed by Cebu sixth district Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, Department of Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, and by airport officials.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, on the other hand, said she is happy seeing Gorres in fast recovery.

Garcia said Gorres brings honor not only to Cebu but to the country as a whole and that because of this, there is a need for all of us to support him.

She said she is very glad that Cebuanos living here and abroad have been extending financial help to Gorres. — Jose P. Sollano/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
