CEBU, Philippines - A man, who allegedly disembarked from a passenger jeepney to avoid the checkpoint, was arrested by police after he yielded a pack of suspected shabu last Friday night on C. Padilla Street, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.
The suspect was identified as Niño Necro, 29, single, jobless and a native of San Remegio town but temporarily lives with her aunt in Barangay Quiot-Pardo.
Operatives of the City Intelligence Branch of Cebu City Police Office were conducting a checkpoint at the area when PO2 Dennis Mosqueda noticed the suspect hurriedly disembarked from a jeepney several meters away before reaching the checkpoint.
Mosqueda and PO2 Marlon Perolina with Police Auxiliary Group members tried to approach the suspect who allegedly walked towards the opposite direction and allegedly tried to run but was eventually apprehended.
Mosqueda said he noticed Necro reaching and getting something from his pocket, which later turned out to be shabu, and allegedly tried to throw it away but was prevented.
The evidence was taken to the PNP-Crime Laboratory Office-7 for examination while a charge for violation Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspect who is now detained at the CCPO stockade.
Meanwhile, a saturation drive simultaneously conducted by San Nicolas police at A. Lopez St. in Barangay Calamba also led to the arrest of Apollo Mare Zapra, 18, and recovery of two small packs of suspected shabu.
The police were conducting the saturation drive against all forms of illegal activities in the area when they chance upon Zapra, a resident of Sitio Cogon, Barangay Labangon. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
