CEBU, Philippines - The recent survey done by The Center Pulso ng Pilipino placed Ramon “Monmon” Mitra as 17th top senatorial candidate from among 56 names chosen from the 159 candidates running for the senate.
Mitra’s name allegedly jumped from “nowhere to number 17”.
“I owe this to the strength, credibility, and the trustworthiness of the Mitra name, a legacy passed on to me my by father, the former senator and speaker of the house of Congress, the late Ramon ‘Monching’ Mitra,” Monmon said.
Mitra said that his father’s legacy and the lessons that he learned from his father gave him the confidence to run for a seat in the Senate.
He said that as a former Marine captain he will run with a platform of governance inspired by the legacy of his father.
“I will have adaptations based on current national and global issues that affect every Filipino people and based on how he sees the world as a man raised to be mindful of the real heart and soul of the poor, the Filipino soldier, and the Filipino who is faced with financial, social, and environmental concerns,” he said.
He said that the Filipino people are born to serve for the betterment of the Filipino community.
“We owe it to our motherland that we serve God, country, and people. I have done my duty and served in the Navy and now I am ready to serve as a public servant,” he said.
Mitra is “elated” and “honored” with the result of the survey but admits he feels the pressure more now.
“I have so much memory of what my father told me he would have done more, had he had more time, I am excited to execute all of them because I know it will make the lives of the many Filipinos better,” he said.
Mitra said that if the mandate of the electorate puts him in the Senate, he will address, among his advocacies, the water supply problem of Cebu Province. -Marjun A. Baguio, University of Cebu intern/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
