CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu provincial government will continue to prioritize the construction of more school buildings for public elementary and high schools next year to address the shortage of classrooms with the opening of classes in June 2010.
More than 600 classrooms were constructed by the provincial government and now used by the public elementary and high schools in Cebu province. But Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said she wants to continue the construction of new school buildings citing that one of the priority programs under her administration is education.
“Pinangga kaayo nako ang mga kabataan hinungdan nga magpadayon kining akong programa bahin sa edukasyon,” she said.
Garcia admitted that during her visit to the different barangays, she noticed the inconvenience of the students deprived of school buildings.
She cited the situation of Bantayan National High School-Patao Extension when she visited there last year.”Pait kaayo ang sitwasyon sa mga tinun-an sa maong lugar, mora’g tangkal sa manok, apan karon nasulbad na nato,” she said.
The provincial government constructed two units of two-classroom buildings in the said campus.During her visit to Medellin and the island municipalities of Santa Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan Island, Garcia inaugurated at least 10 new school buildings.— Jose P. Sollano/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
