CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Police Office is set to investigate the two Ronda policemen caught sleeping on the job and even closing the police station.
PO3s Joramie Espinosa and Sherwin Leyson are now assigned to the Poro police station after CPPO chief Sr. Supt. Jesus Gaquing caught them dressed in shorts inside the Ronda police station during his surprise visit.
The two were formerly assigned as bodyguards to Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob but were relieved due to complaints and transferred to the Ronda police.
Gaquing already instructed Insp. Ruben Cuizon, the chief of Provincial Intelligence Detection Management Branch to investigate for filing another administrative case against the two.
Gaquing said that they should not close the doors of the police station even if it was a Saturday, because a police station should be open 24 hours a day.
Espinosa and Leyson will replace two policemen, SPO2 Rene Donaire and PO1 Bengie Garcia, who were ordered relieved from the Poro police station for the escape of a detainee.
Last Nov. 24, detainee Edgar Galinda gave Donaire and Garcia the slip at a terminal in Danao City after he asked permission to use the restroom.
They were waiting for a ferry back to Poro after filing a case before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office when Galinda fled.
Donaire, Garcia and SPO1 David Sotto went to Danao City last Friday afternoon after receiving information that Galinda was hiding in barangay Maslog.
After coordinating with his parents and relatives, the three policemen were able to recapture Galinda around 6 a.m. yesterday.
Aside from relieving the policemen and transferring them to other areas of Cebu, Gaquing wants them to undergo retraining.
He plans to include them in the next cadet training schedule.
“Aron maka-amgo sila. We need to refresh them about their duties as members of the PNP. Aron mausab ang ilang laxities,” Gaquing told reporters. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
