Brgy. chief nabbed for sniffing shabu

CEBU, Philippines - The chairman of one of the barangays of Medellin town was arrested by the police officers after he was caught using illegal drugs inside his car together with a friend in Barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City yesterday morning.

Arrested was Marianito Yaun, barangay chief of Tipolo, Medellin and his companion, Eldie Briones, resident of Kawit, Medellin.

Recovered from their possession were one medium pack of shabu, three aluminum tin foils, one lighter, one .38 revolver and one .45 caliber pistol with six live ammunitions.

Prior to the incident, the elements of the Provincial Intelligence Branch led by Insp. Rogelio Amoroso received a report on a traveling armed person who is allegedly in Consolacion town. The operatives immediately responded and spotted the Ford Explorer with plate numbers FJR-808 that was being used by the suspects in Consolacion and traveling towards Mandaue City. When the vehicle stopped in Barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City, the police pounced on the suspects and caught them in the act of taking illegal drugs believe to be shabu.

Supt. Rodulfo Albotra, PIB chief, said they received reports that Yaun has been engaged in the illegal drug business.

In Cebu City, operatives from the City Investigation and Detective Management Branch confiscated 12 small packs of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu from a suspected drug pusher last Wednesday night in Sitio Micabiha, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

Aside from the 12 packs of shabu, the suspect, Reynaldo Repaso Cabatino, 39, also yielded several sniffing paraphernalia such as four strips of folded aluminum tin foils, three disposable lighters, and an improvised alcohol lamp. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
