12 RMG-7 personnel to augment security forces at terminals, piers

CEBU, Philippines - Police Regional Office-7 director Lani-O Nerez will deploy a dozen personnel from the Regional Mobile Group-7 today to bus terminals and seaports in order to augment security forces in the said public facilities.

Nerez, together with Cebu Provincial Police Office director Jesus Gaquing and other police officials, had Pier 4 for a last stop in its round of inspection conducted yesterday morning and lauded the pier’s security management.

At the pier, passengers are thoroughly frisked first and then their baggage are lined up for inspection with the help of bomb-sniffing dogs. There were two K9s at the pier yesterday.

Nerez said the pier’s preparation is “okay enough.”

Gerald Gaylan, detachment commander of the Catena Security Agency employed by Pier 4, said that they adopt the same procedures of securing the pier even during ordinary days but that they have added more personnel for the holidays.

Nerez also visited the Cebu South Bus Terminal and the nearby Citilink. He said he would also add two teams from the CPPO and the Cebu City Police Office at the said terminals for augmentation of personnel.

Augmentation of personnel is done in anticipation of a bigger crowd that will converge in the said areas as most people head for home, or out of Cebu City, for the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Days. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
