Highway concreting completed this year

CEBU, Philippines - The concreting of the five-kilometer national highway passing through five barangays in Medellin town worth P100 million will be completed before the end of the year.

Officials of Zigma Construction made the assurance to Cebu fourth district Representative Benhur Salimbangon, who inspected the project yesterday.

Salimbangon, who was instrumental in the implementation of the project, told The FREEMAN that he inspected the project in order for it to follow the standard.

According to him, the project started last May and that the contractor assured him that it will be finished before the year ends.

“Nalipay kita nga bisan kun duha pa lang kapin ta ka tuig nga nagserbisyo nakita na sa katawhan ang atong nahimo,” he said.

The lawmaker said he was happy with the project as it realizes the dream of the people not only in Medellin and Daanbantayan but in the entire fourth district.

He was accompanied by Susan Ornopia of the first engineering district of the Department of Public Works and Highways during the inspection.

Salimbangon said that he himself had experienced traveling the dilapidated road from Barangay Curva to Barangay Don Pedro in Medellin.

Patrocinio Villegas, 70, a resident of Barangay Curva, said he lives in the place since birth and has experienced traveling the dilapidated national highway, which sometimes causes traffic accidents.

A driver of a minibus plying the Bogo-Daanbantayan route told The FREEMAN that his passengers had complained about the bad road from Barangay Don Pedro to Barangay Curva.

For his part, Medellin Mayor Ricardo “Ricky” Ramirez said that he himself experienced going through the dilapidated roads in his town for more than 15 years. Ramirez has served as councilor and vice mayor before becoming the town mayor.

Salimbangon said another P60 million has been allocated for the concreting of the national highway from Barangay Poblacion to Barangay Curva. – Jose P. Sollano/LPM  (THE FREEMAN)
