CEBU, Philippines - Two brothers died while their companion is in critical condition when the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a cargo truck on the national highway in Carcar around 2am yesterday.
The fatalities were identified as Joseph Gebilaquin, 38, and his brother Warren, 32. They were on board a motorcycle with plate number 7D-522HP together with their neighbor Richard Ceniza, 19.
The three are residents of barangay Perelos in Carcar where the accident happened.
Initial investigation revealed that the three were heading home from a drinking spree when they met the Isuzu cargo truck with plate number GKX-181 driven by Alberto Oliver, 60, a resident of Tanjay town in Negros Oriental.
When the two vehicles were near each other, Joseph reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed the bike into the truck head on. Ceniza was thrown off the motorcycle and landed a few meters away.
Oliver voluntarily surrendered to the police and is facing possible charges for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide, severe physical injuries, and damage to property.
Meanwhile, two hours later in the neighboring town of Talisay, a man was found dead with hack and stab wounds on different parts of his body on a bridge in barangay Dumlog.
Residents in the area could not identify the man, but authorities described him as about 30 years old with a medium build. He was wearing a striped black shirt and short pants, but did not have any footwear.
One of the responding policemen, PO3 Arnold Damasco, said it is highly possible that the crime was not committed at the area where the victim was found because no blood could be found there, considering the number of his hack and stab wounds.
“Nagtuo jud mi nga dili ni dire gibuhat ang krimen, posible nga gilabay raning biktima,” Damasco said.
The victim’s remains lie at the St. Francis Funeral Parlor and will be subjected to an autopsy. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
