Senate approves in final reading: Lone District of Lapu-Lapu now just awaiting PGMA's signature

CEBU, Philippines - The Senate has passed on third and final reading House Bill No. 5007 creating the lone congressional district of Lapu-Lapu City.

Lapu-Lapu City Vice Mayor Mario Amores relayed to The FREEMAN yesterday morning the approval of the bill without any problem encountered during the Senate session last Monday afternoon.

Amores said that they are happy with the developments and fast approval of the bill.

The city officials of Lapu-Lapu City led my Mayor Arturo Radaza attended the senate session.

Also present was Councilor Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan, who has bolted the camp of Radaza.

After this final approval by the senate, the bill becomes law once it is signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Amores said that they are hopeful that this will be signed by the president soon.

The Commission on Elections has been informed of the latest development so it can also make the necessary changes.

Lapu-Lapu City is currently part of the 6th District of Cebu that also includes Mandaue City, Cordova and Consolacion.

This latest development makes it seven congressional districts for the province aside from the two of Cebu City.

The bill states that this shall take effect in the next national elections once it is approved.

The incumbent representative of the district shall continue to represent it until the new representative of the lone legislative district of the city of Lapu-Lapu shall be elected. – Jose Sollano/NLQ   (FREEMAN NEWS)
