CEBU, Philippines - A man waiting for a ride aboard an Argao-bound bus at past 7 a.m. yesterday, along the national highway in barangay Candagit, Sibonga town, escapes death for the second time.
Ramil Navares, who was with his cousin as Bernardo Cabahug, 36, said that it was his second time to get shot at.
He narrated that he was with his brother a few months ago when unidentified assailants shot them. His brother died in the said incident, he said.
In yesterday’s incident, he was with his cousin Cabahug when two motorcycle-riding men wearing bonnets appeared from behind them and fired at them. His cousin was hit once in the head and five times in various parts of the body. He said he was able to duck for cover and, in the process, scampered for safety.
Afterwhich, the assailants fled towards Cebu City while the victim was rushed to the Deiparine Medical Clinic but was later transferred to the South General Hospital in Naga town.
However, Cabahug succumbed there because of the severe gunshot wounds he sustained.
“Nag-atang ni sila og masakyan para adto sa Argao kay motambong sa ilang hearing sa Branch 26 sa kasong robbery with frustrated homicide,” SPO1 Darlene Banugon of the Sibonga Police Station said.
It was also learned from Banugon that Navares is now putting the blame at a member of a certain Casilag family, as the latter is reportedly the plaintiff of the robbery case.
Navares even called the Casilag family as a “rival family”, this was further learned.
But the policemen have not yet considered the Casilag family a suspect as they are still on follow-up operation, gathering vital information from witnesses on the identity of the perpetrators.
