CEBU, Philippines - The acting editor-in-chief of BANAT NEWS, a sister publication of this paper, was reportedly harassed by three unidentified men onboard a pickup the other night at the South Coastal Road near barangay San Isidro, Talisay City.
John Rey Saavedra, 33, a resident of barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla town, was on his way home together with his wife and three children ages 10, six and two years old onboard their multicab van when a blue Mitsubishi pickup bearing plate number GLH-823 with three men and a woman onboard allegedly tried to ram onto the right side of his vehicle.
Saavedra said that because he almost lost control of the vehicle he was driving, thereby putting the lives of his family at risk, he went tailing the pickup which eventually stopped in San Isidro.
He said that three men got off the pickup and went near his vehicle and began shouting at him “hambugero ka, ga-una-una ka.” Further, they reportedly yelled expletives at him.
“Wala pa gyod matagbaw, gi-ablihan sa mga lalaki ang pultahan og gisuwayan ko pagbunlot pagawas sa multicab. Gihagad ko’g sukmagay, samtang ang ubang mga kauban gipatidpatiran akong sakyanan,” Saavedra narrated.
However, Saavedra revved up the engine and sped towards the Talisay City Police Station to report the incident.
The car was found out to be registered under a certain Mayet Nacario O’Connell, a resident of Zone 2–019 Fidel Bas Street, barangay Mohon, Talisay City.
Police officers from Talisay will conduct an investigation on the incident.
Saavedra said he will file administrative and criminal charges against the owner and the three unidentified men aboard the said pickup. – Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
